Nite Five: Fare Soldi

A little more than a month ago I started Nite Five – a place where some of our favorite names in music have to pick five tracks you should hear at the moment and tell you why did they choose each one of them. There is one tiny change from now on. The artists would have to pick five songs on a certain subject.

We previously had The Magician on visit, and now we have another act whose roots come from Italy. Their names are Luka Carnifull and Santana Pasta, better known as Fare Soldi; the guys who always ask themselves: “Does smiling while dancing make the people dancing better?”

The second episode of the feature series is called Nite Five: Sunday. You may wonder why “Sunday”? Easy. Because Fare Soldi are better known with their Friday/Saturday night-ish loud dance music and I thought it would be great for us to find out what other stuff are they listening to when having a break.

So are you already curious which tracks did Fare Soldi recommend for your lazy Sundays? Here you go…

Nite Five: Sunday

“Lovely Day”
Bill Withers

Come on, this is THE Sunday morning song. It doesn’t matter if it’s winter or summer, sunny or rainy, this will always be the right tune to start the day with.

As your first coffee of the day is brewing you could focus on how long Bill’s vibrato is when he sings “lovely daaaaaaaaaay” at the end of the song. There was no cut & paste during those times, so Bill really suffered to let you begin your Sunday in a good way. Rezpect.

“Fallin”
Teenage Fanclub feat. De La Soul

This is a little gem from the 90s. The combo of those Scottish indie dudes with the 3 happiest MCs of the old school scene created a beautiful soft melody that kickstarts a Sunday of doing nothing and total chilling. You can feel the slackering vibe directly from the song.

“Buona Domenica”
Antonello Venditti

If you’re Italian, you know what we’re talking about. Antonello’s “Good Sunday” song, with his lyrics about late seventies teenagers listening to the radio in their bedrooms, while struggling with young and pimpled crushes, can’t be compared to his yellow Ray-Bans, with his receding hairline and to his own way of pronouncing vowels.

“Belong”
Washed Out

Sometimes you may have had a challenging Saturday night, with a couple drinks more than you should have ordered. In that situation, nothing’s better than the hazey mood of this track, to simply levitate from your bed, and float around your apartment still under the hungover effect.

Washed Out – Belong
“TNT”
Tortoise

Sunday is not always the day of resting. Sometimes you have to clean, cook, or do some things that you were always planning to do “the next time”.

This song, and the whole album, are the perfect soundtrack for that kind of busy Sunday, with a screwdriver or big fork in your hand.
